Pathways to Success: Supporting Foreign-Trained Teachers in Canada

This new initiative seeks to address the persistent shortage French as a second language (FSL) teachers by focusing on supporting foreign-trained teachers (FTTs) who are teaching or preparing to teach FSL in Canada.

These individuals often face unique challenges in adapting to both the Canadian teaching environment and a new culture. These challenges can include adjusting to different pedagogical approaches, understanding local curriculum standards, navigating unfamiliar administrative processes, and adapting to the nuances of Canadian classroom culture and relationships with students and parents.

To address these challenges and harness the potential of FTTs, the project aims to develop resources and training opportunities for both employers and FTTs. The focus is on facilitating the professional and cultural integration of these individuals into the Canadian education system.

This project aims to increase the retention and career success of FTTs in FSL programs by providing them with targeted support. In addition, school administrators are equipped to facilitate the effective integration of these teachers.

The project has three (3) components:

1. Project planning and implementation

2. Resource development

3. Launch of deliverables and awareness-raising

Deliverables :

  • Administrator guide
  • Asynchronous online courses
  • Live webinars
  • Online support groups
